Profs present papers in world Sports Science & PE confab

UP Diliman (UPD) College of Human Kinetics (CHK) professors partici-pated in the recently concluded International Conference for Physical Education and Sports Science (III ICPESS) 2010 in Singapore from May 25 to 28.

Five CHK professors joined more than a thousand registered participants and presented three of more than 400 research papers and posters. Twenty-three of the papers were published in the proceedings book, including three papers from CHK.
The participants from the CHK were Dean Leilani Gonzalo, Graduate Studies Program Director Prof. Mynette Aguilar, Department of Sports Science Chair Oscar Yoshihiro S. Santelices, Physical Education Department Chair Ronualdo Dizer, and Prof. Jonathan Cagas. Santelices presented “Compassion, Satisfaction, Burnout, and Fatigue Levels of Sports Coaches: Basis for a Proposed Stressed Management Pro-gram”; Dizer presented “Self-Regulating Strategies Engaged by the University of the Philippines Athletes to Control Nega-tive Moods: Anger and Depression”; and Cagas presented “Why Do Filipinos Exercise? Exploring Motives from the Perspective of Filipino Youth.”

During the conference, University of the Cordilleras faculty member Mario Im-son, a former faculty member of the CHK, was elected president of the Asian Council of Exercise Sports Science.

The next ICPESS will be held in 2012 in Baguio City, according to Prof. Santelices.
